Eric Drooker’s “Outside Art”
A reprieve from the city’s chaos.
August 3, 2026
For the cover of the August 10, 2026, issue, the painter and graphic novelist Eric Drooker depicted the Guggenheim Museum as a cool clearing in a forest. “I grew up amid Manhattan’s monotonous grid and found the endless boxes, aligned along strict perpendiculars, overwhelming. As a child, the Guggenheim’s round form was my oasis,” Drooker said. “In a hectic, crowded metropolis, it was a breath of fresh air, a return to nature.”
